Work Related Learning

Our aim is to allow your child to see the links between what is learnt in the classroom and the outside world. We hope this will motivate them in lessons and help them to understand how what they learn here at Rossett School will prepare them for an exciting and ever changing world.

Rossett students also have the opportunity to develop their enterprising skills beyond the classroom. With programmes such as “The Apprentice” and “Dragons’ Den” it is an exciting time to get involved in enterprise.

In recent times we have all had to learn how even the largest organisations can become bankrupt. At Rossett we try to keep students one step ahead by offering them the skills and knowledge to develop an entrepreneurial flair.

Some of our successes in 2007/8:

  • Runners up in the Yorkshire finals for the national “Make Your Mark” challenge.
  • Raising over £300 for Fair Trade through our Year 12 Young Enterprise team.
  • Runners up in the Harrogate Year 8 “Dragons’ Lair” competition.
  • Three Year 7 girls selected by Harrogate District Hospital to produce a publicity leaflet for the “In Your Hands” campaign.

This year some of the things we plan to do are:

  • Win the “Make Your Mark” challenge.
  • Continue with our Young Enterprise Programme.
  • Organise a “Battle of the Bands” competition.
  • Develop a team of students to work with the local community on charitable projects.
  • Set up mini-businesses that students can run and generate a profit from.

The Make Your Mark Enterprise Awards 2009 take place on 15th July 2009 in York and Birmingham. We intend to enter several students for these awards.

If you would like to find out more, please contact Mr E Lyell (Enterprise and Work Related Learning Coordinator) or Mr B Foley (Business Studies).
