Science Faculty

The Science Faculty at Rossett school comprises 11 laboratories and offers a range of courses at GCSE and AS/A2 level. There are 11 full time staff and 3 part-time staff. We are supported by 2 technicians.

Key Stage 3:

The KS3 science course is based on the new QCA model and incorporates a wide variety of topics in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Each module includes practical work, investigative skills and group activities. The new scheme of work reflects the importance of Science in society with pupils gaining a greater insight into ‘How Science Works’ and applying this to everyday situations. The aim of KS3 science is to engage, challenge and inspire pupils and equip them with the skills for GCSE and beyond. There is also a homework club on Wednesdays.

Key Stage 4:

At KS4 we offer a variety of GCSEs from OCR’s 21st Century Science Suite. All students take the Core Science GCSE which fulfils the KS4 National Curriculum. There are a variety of units leading to modular exams. The course aims to develop ‘scientifically literate citizens’. Most students also complete a further one or two GCSEs.

  • 3 GCSEs – Triple Award (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
  • 2 GCSEs – Core Science and then an Additional Science GCSE

All courses are offered at Higher and Foundation level and involve some coursework.

Key Stage 5:

We offer AS/A2 Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We also offer AS Applied Science course which involves a mixture of internal and external assessments.

Science Club

Coursework catch up club runs every Wednesday to support students in completing GCSE coursework. A new Science Club also runs at lunchtimes.
